Travel over the festive period (strikes and engineering work) - bus, rail, tube, Elizabeth line, London Overground

Strikes affecting some London bus services will take place this December with industrial action also taking place on National Rail services through until January.

There will also be a part closure on the Bakerloo line and London Overground in December, and TfL planned works and service changes for the Christmas and New Year period.

We have put together a summary below of which services will be affected, as well as useful links to help you get around if you need to.

Bus strikes

The planned Metroline strike activity has been suspended. There are still strikes on Abellio bus services. On strike days, TfL will aim to run as many services as possible.

Routes affected by the Abellio strike action are mostly in west and south London.

Other bus services are not affected by these strikes.

Routes affected are listed below. Other services not affected by strikes will be busier than normal.

On the days after strikes, a good service will be running by approximately 06:00.

Day routes: 3, 27, 45, 63, 68, 109, 130, 156, 195, 196, 201, 207, 267, 270, 278, 315, 322, 350, 367, 381, 407, 415, 427, 433, 464, 482, 490, 969, C10, E5, E7, E10, E11, H20, H25, H28, H26, P5, P13, R68, R70, S4, U5, U7, U9

Route 481 will operate but with fewer services on weekdays from 07:30-08:00, and from 15:00-16:00. 

24-hour routes: 24, 111, 159, 285, 344, 345

Night routes: N3, N27, N63, N68, N109, N207, N381

School route: 671

TfL is advising passengers to plan ahead and check your travel.

National Rail strikes - December 2022 and January 2023

Strikes will affect National Rail services nationwide. For more information, see the National Rail website.

Most TfL services, including most of the Tube, will continue to run. However, there will be some disruption where track is operated by Network Rail.

Strikes are planned on these days:

  • Tuesday 13 and Wednesday 14 December
  • Friday 16 and Saturday 17 December
  • Tuesday 3 and Wednesday 4 January
  • Friday 6 and Saturday 7 January

On strike days there will be disruption on parts of the District and Bakerloo lines, and on the London Overground and Elizabeth line.

Tube

On the District line, limited services will run between 07:30 and 18:30 between Wimbledon and Parsons Green, and between Richmond and Turnham Green.

On the Bakerloo line, no services will run between Queens Park and Harrow & Wealdstone.

Elizabeth line

A reduced service will run on the Elizabeth line. Services will operate in 3 sections.

Liverpool Street – Shenfield: 2 trains per hour will run between 07:30 and 18:30.

Abbey Wood – Paddington: 12 trains per hour will run until 17:30 and then 6 trains per hour. On Wednesday 14 and Saturday 17 December, and Wednesday 4 and Saturday 7 January, 6 trains per hour will run before 08:00.

Paddington – Heathrow: Services will run between 07:30 and 18:30 only. There will be 2 trains per hour between Paddington and Reading and 2 trains per hour between Paddington and Heathrow Terminal 4.

London Overground

A reduced service will run on the London Overground between 07:30 and 18:30 only.

The Night Overground will not run on strike days.

The following services will operate:

Richmond/Clapham Junction - Stratford

Reduced service

Highbury and Islington - West Croydon/Clapham Junction/Crystal Palace

2 trains per hour between Highbury & Islington and West Croydon

2 trains per hour between Highbury & Islington and Clapham Junction

2 trains per hour between Highbury & Islington and Crystal Palace

Gospel Oak - Barking

No services will run between Barking and Barking Riverside

4 trains per hour between Gospel Oak and Barking

Liverpool Street - Chingford/Cheshunt/Enfield Town

2 trains per hour between Liverpool Street and Enfield Town

2 trains per hour between Liverpool Street and Chingford

1 train per hour between Liverpool Street and Cheshunt

Euston - Watford Junction

No services will run on Saturday 17 December

2 trains per hour between Euston and Watford Junction

2 trains per hour between Euston and Kilburn High Road

Romford - Upminster

No service expected

You are advised to plan ahead and check your travel.

On the days after strikes, early-morning disruption is expected. A good service will be running by late morning.

National Rail strikes - 24 to 27 December 2022

Strike action is planned from 18:00 on Saturday 24 December until 06:00 on Tuesday 27 December.

Planned works and service changes

There is a part closure on the Bakerloo line and London Overground from Saturday 17 to Friday 23 December so that Network Rail can carry out work to improve their track and infrastructure.

From Friday 23 December to Monday 2 January, there are planned works and service changes for the Christmas and New Year period.

Network Rail engineering work is also taking place over the festive season affecting National Rail services. As ever, do plan ahead and remember to check before you travel.
